Florian Wellbrock, the highly accomplished German swimmer who has excelled in both pool and open-water events, has set his sights on an audacious objective for the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris. He aspires to become the first male swimmer in history to win gold in both the 10km open-water and 1500m freestyle pool events at the same Olympic Games.
Wellbrock's ambition is fueled by his remarkable achievements in both disciplines. In the pool, he has claimed Olympic gold in the 1500m freestyle at the 2021 Tokyo Games and a bronze in the same event at the 2016 Rio Olympics. In open-water swimming, he is the reigning world champion in the 10km event and has also won gold in the 5km and silver in the 10km at the European Championships.
